By averaging 23.5 points and 6.3 rebounds per game this season in the EuroCup Women, it's safe to say that Roneeka Hodges is an important part of her Gran Canaria team that has done so well.

Hodges and Co have reached the last 32 of the competition.

The 25-year-old is the fifth-leading scorer in the EuroCup, and she will be looking to pour in more points when her team takes on Extragusa in their next game on January 10.

In the Liga Femenina, though, the Canary Islanders are struggling.

They have just four wins from nine games and that is the case despite Hodges being the leading scorer in the domestic competition at 22.5 points per contest.

"We have started well in Europe but we haven't shown our full potential in the Spanish league," Hodges said.

"But I believe we are getting to our top level and I hope that we can play in the Spanish league as well as we are doing in Europe."

The elite continental competition in Europe is the EuroLeague Women, but when it comes to the top domestic league, there is debate.

There are great teams all over, in Russia, France, the Czech Republic, Spain and Poland.

"Of all the leagues that I have played outside of the WNBA, it (Spain) is the best," Hodges said.

"It's my personal opinion. I have played in France and in Turkey, and I really think it's the most competitive."

The challenge for Hodges, who hails from New Orleans and played college basketball up the road in Baton Rouge at LSU, is to maintain her own fast start and make sure her team starts winning games.

She scored 40 points at Mann Filter Zaragoza on December 8 and led them to a 95-82 victory.

"I did play a good game," she said, "but the important thing was to win the game."
