USO Mondeville overcame a big first-leg deficit to Botas Spor on Thursday night and advanced to the Quarter-Finals of the EuroCup Women. Beaten 76-67 in the opener, the French club returned home and prevailed 86-70 to win 153-146 on aggregate. Temeka Johnson poured in 20 points for Mondeville, who got off to a strong start and never looked back. They outscored the Turkish team 21-14 in the first quarter. Mondeville took complete command in the second frame when they put 26 more points on the board and led 47-26 at half-time. The hosts did enough over the final two quarters to win 123-110 on aggregate. Nadezhda had to sweat out an aggregate win over Mann Filter Zaragoza. The Russian team took a 10-point lead into the second leg and lost 78-72 on Thursday night but that was good enough for a 152-148 victory over the two games. Sheana Mosch scored 25 valuable points for Nadezhda. Gran Canaria gave Municipal Targoviste a tough time back in Spain but weren't able to hit back from their massive 25-point deficit from the first leg. The Spanish outfit got 20 points and 11 boards from Jaklin Zlatanova but they lost the tie on aggregate to the Romanian club, 147-133. Sony Athinaikos marched into the Quarter-Finals with a 138-122 aggregate triumph over Dynamo Kyiv. Candice Wiggins finished with 25 points while recent signing Ruth Riley contributed 12. The Greeks took control of the game with a strong first quarter, outscoring Kyiv 24-15. |
