EUROCUP WOMEN FINAL

Turning Point: Trailing by a point at 40-41, Dynamo Moscow exploded with a devastating period of play to outscore Dynamo Kursk 37-10 in a run which was initiated just before half-time and spanned the entire duration of the third quarter.

Stats Don't Lie: Dynamo Kursk only mustered a meagre eight points in the third quarter and Dynamo Moscow did a great job on the glass with 49 rebounds compared to 34 from the losing side.

Game Heroes: A brilliant 26 points and 17 boards from Tina Charles was the centrepiece of a great team effort, underpinned by 20 points and seven assists from Ana Dabovic and 15 rebounds from Tatiana Vidmer who did the 'dirty' work under the baskets.

A stellar display by Tina Charles took defending champions Dynamo Moscow to a breathtaking 97-65 success against Dynamo Kursk in the first-leg of the EuroCup Women final and a major step closer to retaining their title.

The holders produced some of their best basketball of the season as the 2012 winners suffered a meltdown after the break, which now gives themselves a mountain to climb in the second meeting next week.

Having warned of the danger posed by Charles ahead of the game, Dynamo Kursk coach Bo Overton watched in dismay as the center wreaked havoc.

Yet despite the mammoth final margin of victory, there had been no daylight between the teams for much of the first twenty minutes.

A basket by Jelena Milovanovic kept the game locked at 17-17 and when a three-pointer by the Serbian forward handed Dynamo Kursk a 26-23 advantage heading into the second period, everything looked to be going to plan.

But, with Charles proving too hot to handle under the hoop, Dynamo Moscow always looked capable of taking the initiative and shortly before the interval, they made a decisive move and finished the half with a real flourish by scoring nine of the last eleven points.

Their offensive rhythm wasn't broken by having to head to the locker rooms and playmaker Lindsay Whalen quickly brought up a double-digit advantage when they play got back underway.

Despite having had half-time to try and stop the bleeding, Kursk imploded in spectacular fashion and by the end of the third quarter, their dreams were beginning to ebb away as Whalen made it 71-51.

Any hopes of a final quarter comeback to minimise the damage from Kursk were quickly extinguished, as Dynamo Moscow continued their utter domination to put one hand back on the silverware they won so dramatically last year.

Candice Dupree led Kursk with 16 points.
