Sviatlana Volnaya

Career: RUOR Minsk (Belarus-Div. 1, 1993-94), Gorizont Minsk (Belarus-Div. 1, 1995-97), Independence Community College (USA-NJCAA, 1997-98), Virginia (USA-NCAA, 1998-2001), La Spezia (Italy-A1, 2001-02), Calais (France-LFB, 2002), Villeneuve-d'Ascq (France-LFB, 2002-03), ASPTT Aix (France-LFB, 2003-04), Szolnok (Hungary, 2004-05), Dexia Namur (Belgium, 2005), USK Praha (Czech Republic-A1, 2005-07), Fenerbahce (Turkey-TBBL, 2008)

For a long period of time Sviatlana Volnaya has been the top name of the Belarusian women's basketball. Her illustrious career is full of trophies and historic milestones, like being the first Belarusian ever drafted by a WNBA club or taking part in the EuroLeague Women All-Star Game in 2007. That has somewhat changed lately as the emergence of stars like Verameyenka, Leuchanka and Marchanka coincided with Volnaya's own decline caused mostly by injuries. Sviatlana missed the Beijing Olympics and then took a full year off to cope with the health issues, but it still remains to be seen whether she's fit enough to be counted on as a solid rotation member in Latvia. However, there's no denying the impact that Volnaya, a well-known defensive stalwart, could have on the team's performance.
