| Amaya Valdemoro
| If you ever ask anyone in Spain about women’s basketball they will likely give you the name Amaya Valdemoro as a response. Valdemoro is a world-class player who has reached the apex of her career, balancing the wisdom that comes with age with her already awesome skill set. She is used to being the main attraction at any game and has been playing basketball all over the world since she was a teenager. Fans of Dorna Godella noticed her excellent and outstanding qualities when playing for Universidad de Salamanca at just 16 years of age. Although she won the European Cup and two Spanish Leagues, she did not have a prominent enough role and so she made the move back to Salamanca, where she was quickly given more responsibilities. She eventually moved to Ros Casares where she won it all and spent her summers winning three WNBA rings with the Houston Comets before rejoining the National Team, where she achieved some collective (two bronze medals) and individual honours (2003 European Championship top scorer and member of the tournament’s All-Team). Despite all of these accomplishments the 31-year-old’s career still has one black spot, the EuroLeague. Unable to reach the Final Four with Ros Casares Valencia, Valdemoro moved to CSKA Samara where she has yet complete her goal of winning a EuroLeague title. Still, anyone who has watched Valdemoro in the past knows that any failures are not for a lack of heart or skill. She is Spain’s best player and will be critical to their EuroBasket Women success.
