Career: Gonzaga University (USA-NCAA, 2000-02), Frankfurt Skyliners (Germany, 2002-04), Orlando Magic (NBA, 2004-...). Drafted in the First round (#41) of the 2002 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Clippers.
Another Croatian giant; they seem to grow on trees. He is largely unknown to the general public, even in Croatia. The reason is that he has made himself a name playing abroad. Mario's career has been everything but easy: despite being blessed with a phenomenal body, he sat out two seasons at the Gonzaga college in the NCAA, due to an eligibility problem. He was surprisingly drafted by the Los Angeles Clippers in 2002 and traded to Orlando, but signed for the Frankfurt Skyliners to sharpen up his skills. After a strong 2003-2004 ULEB CUP showing and a national title in Germany, he finally landed in the NBA with the Magic last season. He wasn't given much playing time and will probably have a hard time making the top 12 of the national team amid the tough competition among the Croatian big men. |
