Hosts Malta opened the 2010 European Championship Men Division C with a convincing 83-51 victory over San Marino Monday.
Darryl Jackson was the star of the show with 25 points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals in the victory. Steve Schembri chipped in with 18 points and three steals.
Malta shot nearly 46% from behind the three-point line while holding their opponents to just four of 17 shooting from that distance.
Andorra meanwhile opened with a thrilling 73-70 victory of Moldova.
Rafael Casals scored 21 points and grabbed seven rebounds in the win, while Jorge Olcina scored 19 points on the strength of five three-pointers.
The newest team in Division C Denmark scored an 88-68 victory over Scotland to open in fine fettle.
Andreas Jakobsen led a balanced scoring attack for the Danes with 17 points.
The Scots were led by Steven Leven who scored 23 points and grabbed six rebounds.
Gibraltar were also victorious on the opening day of the competition, getting 21 points from Raul Garcia in a 68-58 victory over Wales.
