Andorra and Moldova prevailed in Group A and both Albania and Azerbaijan tasted triumph in Group B on the opening day of the Promotion Cup in Durrsi.
The Andorrans, winners of this event in three of the previous four years, seized control early and rolled to an 87-73 victory over Malta.
Daniel Rodriguez poured in a game-high 30 points and pulled down eight boards for Andorra, who led 23-16 after the opening period and 45-33 at halftime.
Malta, who got 16 points from Christopher Sammut, were unable to claw their way back.
Moldova also won their contest with Gibraltar, 100-54.
In the most one-sided game of the day, Alexei Andrus had 27 points for the Moldovans.
In Group B, Albania, who are hosting a FIBA Europe event for the first time, edged San Marino 84-76 with both Sokol Kasmi and Franko Bushati finishing with 16 points.
The Albanians led 49-46 at half-time and then took a stronger grip on the game in the third quarter, building a 71-61 lead with 10 minutes to play.
They held on for the opening day success. Both Stefano Rossini and Federico Tassinari had 20 points for San Marino.
In the day's other game, Azerbaijan were convincing winners over Wales.
Anar Sariyev had 22 points as Azerbaijan won 82-62.
Stuart Robbins finished with 22 points and 11 rebounds for the Welsh, who trailed 22-11 after the first period and played catch-up for the remainder of the contest.
