Career: BK Samara (Russia-Superleague B, 1996-98), Unics Kazan (Russia-Superleague, 1998-05).
Petr Samoilenko has played the role of backup point-guard in the last few years. But his place on the national team is now in jeopardy with the Russian passport granted to J.R. Holden... Since moving to the first division he has remained faithful to Unics Kazan playing there for seven years. He twice reached the finals of the Superleague. But the highlight of his career came in 2004 when Unics captured the FIBA Europe League title in a Final Four that was held in their own gym... This year, his club lost in the quartefinals as Samoylenko averaged 6.7 points and 2.6 assists in European competition and similar numbers in the Superleague. He relied once again on his speed and surprising athletic abilities on offense while he remains a tough defender.
