Spain pulled away from Slovenia on Thursday night in the second half to post an 89-71 win at the Torneo Marca Ciudad de Sevilla. Leading 49-45 at half-time, Spain broke the contest wide open and won easily with Marc Gasol's 17 points and Felipe Reyes' 14 leading the team by the end of the game. Spain are winning games with ease despite the absence of star big man Pau Gasol, who is recovering from a finger operation. Sergio Scariolo, who lost Berni Rodriguez when the Unicaja Malaga sharpshooter pulled out of the squad with an ankle injury at the end of July, also has doubts about Álex Mumbrú. The Real Madrid forward has a groin injury and may not recover in time for the EuroBasket, which tips off on September 7. In Thursday's other game in Seville, Lithuania blew away Great Britain 97-62 with Darjus Lavrinovic scoring 17 points, Tomas Delininkaitis 15 and new Olympiacos signing Linas Kleiza 14. Delininkaitis was asked about his outstanding display and he responded: "I do not like to evaluate my performance. "Most importantly, the victory was obtained. "Our team has 13 players who can shoot any time, so my performance is not exceptional." The Lithuanians will take on Spain on Friday night. |
