U20 Women Semi-Finals
|Anastasiya Shilova erupted for 23 points and 10 rebounds to spark Russia to the Final|
Russia battled past Poland and will defend their title in the final of the U20 European Championship Women after a 68-52 victory.
Poland fought hard and kept with Russia in the first half, but saw the champions edge clear in the third quarter before finishing comfortably.
Russia were up 28-21 on Veronika Dorosheva's three-pointer with 3:38 in the first half, but then saw Poland finish on an 11-0 run, sparked by Monika Jasnowska's three, and they led 32-28 at the interval thanks to a lay-up from Agnieszka Sniezek.
But Russia emerged from the locker room in far less forgiving mood, and when Evgeniya Finogentova sank a three-pointer to tie the game at 36-36 it was the start of a 13-2 run, capped by another three from Dorosheva, that had Russia out in front 46-38.
After Magdalena Idziorek's three for Poland, Anastasiya Shilova hit back with another for Russia and then lay-ups from Victoria Solovyeva and Dorosheva pushed the lead to 12, 53-41.
Poland's problems grew as Malgorzata Misiuk had to be helped from the court with an ankle problem, although she would return by the final stages.
When she did come back, Misiuk found her team still down by double figures as free throws from Alexandra Tarasova and a three-pointer from Yana Panevina kept Poland at bay.
Shilova led Russia with 23 points and 10 rebounds, while Dorosheva added 13 points with seven rebounds.
Misiuk had 16 points for Poland with Magdalena Zietara adding 10.
