Defending champions Russia beat Belarus 69-61 but it wasn't sufficient to see them through to the medal round.
Entering play with two losses in the group, Russia had no chance of advancing to the semi-finals.
Natalya Myasoedova poured in a game-high 22 points and corralled 14 rebounds for the Russians.
Russia took a 37-28 lead going into the break with Myasoedova scoring 16 first-half points.
Belarus were outscored 21 to 14 over the next eight minutes (58-42) but eventually managed to cut the deficit 64-58.
Russia kept their cool to clinch victory.
Belarus outrebounded Russia 51-32.
Russia were an efficient four of 11 (36.3%) from three-point range while Belarus made just four of 20 (20%).
