Italy never trailed to pick up their third consecutive victory and a place in the quarter-finals at the U20 European Championship Women, stunning the previously unbeaten hosts Turkey 54-46.

With six different scorers, and couple of triples from Francesca Melchiori, Italy opened a 19-6 lead early in the second quarter.

Turkey rallied behind Ayse Cora who scored 12 of their 20 first-half points, but Italy pulled away again with a 7-0 run at the start of the third quarter for a 33-22 lead.

The hosts fought back once again, as a three-pointer from Merve Aydin cut it to 47-44, but another 7-0 run from Italy, capped with a triple from Alessandra Formica, sealed the deal.

Turkey dominated on the glass with a 47-27 advantage, but Italy overcame the deficit forcing 26 turnovers and going 6-for-17 behind the arc compared to Turkey's 1-for-12.

11 of those turnovers were committed by Olcay Cakir who more than met her match in Italian defensive weapon Francesca Dotto.

Caterina Dotto led Italy with 14 points and five steals, Formica collected 11 points and seven rebounds, while Melchiori had 10 points.

Cora was the only double-digit scorer for Turkey, finishing with 14 points.
