GAME REPORT

Spain Stun Brits in Lopsided Win

5. Queralt Casas (Spain)
Queralt Casas and Spain kept the pressure up for 40 minutes, causing 36 Great Britain turnovers

Spain saved the best until last as they wrapped up their Group D campaign with an 81-31 pummelling of Great Britain at the U20 European Championship Women.

After starting the game with a 14-2 run to establish a healthy lead, Spain moved through the gears in the second quarter, finishing the period on an 18-2 run, in which Vega Gimeno scored the first seven points and then capped it with a jump-shot that made it 40-14.

Although Britain began the second half with a three-pointer from Gemma Bullard, it did not singnal changed fortunes as Spain responded with 17 straight points.

Britain were the architects of their own downfall to a large degree, finishing the game with more turnovers - 36 - than points.

Gimeno finished the game with 18 points while Queralt Casas had 16 and Amaya Gastaminza collected 11.

Deanne Hayward was the only British player to reach double figures with 10 points while Renee Busch, so impressive in scoring 20 against Latvia a day earlier, was held to seven points.

Temi Fagbenle, who had averaged 10.5 rebounds in the first two games, sat out the contest with an ongoing knee problem.
