U20 Women Group D
|Amaya Gastaminza was the top performer for Spain in a win that was never in question|
Spain showed once again why they are amongst the favourites at the U20 European Championship Women as they routed Slovakia 59-27 in their Group D clash.
In a merciless display from the Spanish, they tore through their opponents, going up 25-5 by the end of the first quarter.
Slovakia had no answer for their defence, shooting only 12 of 44 (27.3%) from the field throughout the game while giving up a 38-28 disadvantage on the boards.
Amaya Gastaminza led Spain with 12 points and eight rebounds, despite having to leave the court with a bloodied nose in the first half before returning.
However, she was the only Spanish player to score in double figures as Lucas Mondelo was able to give his bench players heavy minutes in a game that never truly developed into a contest.
Mireia Vila added eight points and Leonor Rodriguez had seven and three assists.
Slovakia, who scored a crucial last-gasp win over Great Britain yesterday, had little to cheer them today, with Angelika Slamova and Dominika Baburova finishing as their joint top-scorers on six points, while Zofia Hruscakova had four points and eight rebounds.
