By David HeinSabine Niedola and Kristine Vitola combined for 45 points as Latvia eased past Poland 63-49 in the qualifying round of the U20 European Championship for Women.
Niedola had 26 points, 11 rebounds and three assists while Vitola scored 12 of her 19 points in the first quarter in helping Latvia to a 2-1 record in the group.

Olivia Tomialowicz scored 14 points and Paulina Antczak had 10 points for Poland, who dropped to 1-2 in the group.
Latvia struggled offensively early on but were strong on defense and opened an 11-point first quarter lead, which was 19-9 after one period.
The hosts did not let Poland do much and pushed the advantage to 14 points early in the second and up to 17 points late in the quarter before leading 35-20 at the break.
Latvia continued their onslaught in the third quarter with an 11-2 start for a 24-point advantage. And the lead was 48-30 after three periods.
Poland would not get closer than 12 points late in the fourth quarter.
