By David HeinRomania picked up their third straight victory in the relegation round of the U20 European Championship for Women while Sweden picked up their first win by knocking off Bulgaria.
Elisabeth Pavel had 23 points and 12 rebounds to lead Romania to a 70-50 victory over Germany to improve to 3-0 in the relegation Group G, while Danielle Hamilton and Tilde Ahlin both had 14 points to guide Sweden to a 72-52 win over Bulgaria to move to 1-2.
Stefanie Yderstrom collected 11 points, seven rebounds and four assists for Sweden, who used a 13-0 run in the second quarter to grab control of the game with a 15-point lead.
Bulgaria, who dropped to 0-3 despite 13 points from Volina Kocheva and 12 from Antoniya Zagorova, trimmed the deficit to seven points in the third quarter. But the Swedes went on a 12-2 spurt to start the fourth period to put Bulgaria away for good.
Romania, who also got 18 points from Cristina Bigica and 16 points from Gabriela Munteanu, went on a 19-3 run in the second quarter to open a 15-point lead. A 14-4 spurt to start the second half pushed the game to 26 points and Germany would never challenge again.
Mara Greunke scored 12 points and Stephanie Wagner added 10 for Germany, who dropped to 2-1 and second place in the group.
