The Romanians stormed out to an 18-5 first-quarter advantage and eventually won 41-35. Anita Meszaros scored 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the victory. Slovakia's 93-38 mauling of Great Britain means three teams - Slovakia, Hungary and Romania - all finished with 3-1 records in Group A with Ireland 1-4. All advanced to the quarter-finals, with the Brits the only side not to reach the last eight. Sweden won 73-42 over Israel and Poland edged the Netherlands 57-54 in Group B. The Swedes (4-0) finished top ahead of Poland (3-1), the Netherlands (2-2), Israel (1-3) and Portugal (0-4). In the quarter-finals on Friday, Hungary take on the Dutch, Poland face Romania, the Slovakians square off against Israel and Sweden go up against Ireland. |
