The players and coaches of BC Oostende and Spartak Saint-Petersburg hoped and prayed they'd be in Sunday's EuroChallenge title game.
Neither managed to put their best performances on the court in the Semi-Finals, however, and suffered defeats.
Instead, the two sides will have to get over the disappointment and meet in battle for third place.
Oostende had led for much of their game against KRKA Novo Mesto and carried a 50-49 advantage into the last frame before falling 79-65.
Spartak, whose point guard Patrick Beverley went down with an apparent ankle injury against Lokomotiv Kuban and is an uncertainty for Sunday, lost their Semi-Final 74-64.
