The impact of Dynamo St Petersburg on the FIBA Europe League has been lauded by the Russian city's governor, Valentina Matvienko.
Dynamo, a team that was only formed last summer, went unbeaten in the competition, ultimately prevailing in the Final Four in Istanbul over Russian rivals BC Khimki and Ukrainian giants BC Kyiv.
At an awards ceremony in St Petersburg, Matvienko said: "I congratulate the founders of the club, Dynamo sport society and BC Dynamo chief executive Vladimir Rodionov whose modern management allowed Dynamo to achieve that brilliant success, and of course head coach David Blatt and all the players.
"St Petersburg hasn't had such victories for more than 30 years.
"It was a remarkable win as Dynamo won all their 20 games in the tournament.
"Dynamo were founded less than an year ago but they did as much as some clubs who need 10 years."
