EWE Baskets Oldenburg have seen off resilient hosts Tsmoki-Minsk 72-66, assuring their position in the EuroChallenge quarter-finals.

Following a docile first half in which both teams struggled for ascendency and went into the break tied at 29, the German visitors appeared to have put the game beyond doubt in the third quarter, developing a healthy 10-point lead going into the home-stretch.

However, when Aliaksandr Kudrautsau hit a three to begin final-quarter proceedings, and new signing Tierre Brown followed it up with a jump-shot on the fast-break, the tickets for Sebastian Machowski's team to the quarters were far from punched.

Tsmoki-Minsk stayed close for the remainder of the period, going into the final minute trailing by three.

However, three points was as close as the hosts were allowed to come with some stiff Oldenburg defence only allowing Minsk one look at the basket in the final 30 seconds.

A Dru Joyce free-throw with 15 seconds left allowed the Germans some breathing space with the lead going out past a basket.

Julius Jenkins topped scoring for the winners with 17 points with his main support coming from Rickey Paulding with 12 and Robin Smeulders with 11.

Kudrautsau led all scorers with 24 points.
