|Robert Dixon nailed six three-pointers on his way to 28 points|
Pinar Karsiyaka's strong defence was at the fore once again as they opened their EuroChallenge Group I campaign with an 89-59 rout of Gaz Metan Medias.
After a close first quarter, Karsiyaka blew the visitors away in the second quarter, with a 19-2 run - capped by Jon Diebler's three-pointer - turning a narrow deficit into a commanding 39-24 lead.
The visitors did their best to get close again, with a short 6-0 run that spanned the half-time interval getting it back into single figures, Rares Mandache's lay-up making it 44-35 two minutes into the third period.
But Robert Dixon then hit a pair of threes followed by another from Diebler to highlight an 18-2 Karsiyaka spurt that definitively put the game out of reach, with Abdul Aminu's free throw making it 62-37 with three minutes left in the third.
They continued to pour it on thick in the fourth quarter, with threes from Diebler and Umit Sonkol moving them 80-53 clear, and things only got worse for the visitors as they missed their final five field goal attempts.
Karsiyaka held Gaz Metan Medias to just 21-of-62 (33.9%) shooting from the field, while sinking 31-of-51 (60.8%) of their own chances.
Dixon led Karsiyaka with 28 points while Diebler had 15 - on 5-of-7 shooting from three-point range.
Aminu added 12 points and Sonkol and William Thomas added 11 apiece.
Zoran Krstanovic had 11 points for the visitors with Mandache adding 10.
