|Robin Smeulders had 11 points as EWE Baskets ended BC Timisoara's chances of making the Last 16|
BC Timisoara's hopes of a place in the last 16 of the EuroChallenge are now slim after they ran into the EWE Baskets buzz-saw, losing 76-66 to the Group F leaders.
The Romanians now need EWE Baskets to beat Körmend next week and at the same time have to beat Szolnoki by at least 23 points in order to advance in a three-team tie.
Timisoara certainly put up a fight, holding EWE Baskets scoreless through the first five minutes as they took an 11-0 lead on Bogdan Popescu's lay-up.
But a 13-0 spurt that ran into the second quarter would bring EWE Baskets all the way back to take a 24-18 lead on Julius Jenkins' jump-shot.
However, it took a while to shake off the hosts, who used a 10-2 run to level it at 32 on Ivan Jelenic's three-pointer before half-time.
The visitors began to ease through the gears in the second half, with back-to-back baskets from Jenkins making it 47-36 late in the third quarter.
Timisoara would come back one more time, with Zlatko Jovanovic's three-pointer making it 55-52 early in the fourth quarter, but EWE Baskets soon quelled that rebellion and saw it out to the finish.
Paulding led the victors with 15 points while Jenkins had 14, and Robin Smeulders 11.
Popescu had 14 points for Timisoara while Jovanovic, Jelenic, and Robert Sarovic had 11 each.
