Gallant Telekom Baskets Fall Short

Chester Simmons (Krasyne Krylia)
Chester Simmons was again the hero for Krasyne Krylia with a game-high 24 points

A depleted Telekom Baskets Bonn have fallen short of pulling off the unthinkable, losing to Krasnye Krylia 95-85 in overtime in game 2 of their EuroChallenge quarter-final play-off series.

With injuries effectively cutting Michael Koch's line-up to eight men, and given they had lost on the road by 20 points earlier in the week against their still-to-be-beaten guests, it was with reason that Telekom Baskets were at long odds to win on Thursday.

However, following on from an inspired 17 points from Andrej Mangold in the opening 16 minutes - easily eclipsing his previous season-best final haul of seven points - Bonn would lead for the majority of regulation time.

Mangold failed to add to his score but still managed to match teammate Robert Vaden for a shared team-high of 17 points.

Down by four with 38 seconds to play, Andre Smith sunk a three-pointer to bring the guests within a point. Kyle Weems could then only hit one-of-two from the charity stripe with the clock showing seven seconds, allowing Yury Vasiliev to tie the game up with two-from-two on the charity stripe with a second remaining.

Fatigue then kicked in for Koch's eight men in overtime with Chester Simmons putting the final nail in the hosts' coffin with six of his team's 10 overtime points, as Bonn failed to score once in the added period.

Simmons finished the night with a game-high 24 points as one of five Krasnye Krylia players to make double figures. Smith chipped in with 19 and 10 boards; Omar Thomas picked up 15; Aaron Miles grabbed a 12-point, 10-assist double-double; and Evgeny Kolesnikov had 10.
