Former France international Claude Marquis will sign a short-term contract with SLUC Nancy on Friday, pending a medical examination.

Marquis arrives at Nancy in the afternoon and if the club doctors are satisfied with his physical condition he will replace sidelined Shawn King on the roster, for the duration of the Trinidad-and-Tobago-born center's injury.

King took a knock during Nancy's clash with Pizza Express Apollon in EuroChallenge Group G action on Tuesday and is expected to be out of action with a herniated disc for at least two months, according to the latest estimates.

The 32-year-old Marquis has led a very eventful life.

He spent two months in prison at a young age but was later cleared of all charges and overcame adversity to continue with his basketball career.

The 2.04m center's first professional club was Cholet and he spent several years of this career there.

He was an integral part of the team in the 2008/09 season, when the French club reached the Final Four of the EuroChallenge and finished runners up after falling 77-75 to Vitus Bologna in the final.

Marquis then moved to Strasbourg, where he played for two seasons, and had a short spell in Lebanon.

He was on the books of Pau Lacq Orthez for the biggest part of last season and averaged 7.9 points (on 55 percent shooting from the floor) and 5.2 rebounds in 19 games in the French Pro A.

Orthez were also involved in the EuroChallenge but Marquis only joined the side shortly before their last game in the competition and had a testimonial nine-minute participation.

The 32-year-old is expected to make his return to the competition next Tuesday, in Nancy's away game to BCM Gravelines.
