GAME REPORTEWE Baskets blew out ZZ Leiden 85-62 on Tuesday night in the EuroChallenge Last 16. Fresh off their come-from-behind triumph at BK Ventspils, Leiden were no match on this occasion for the Oldenburg outfit in Germany. Kenneth Hasbrouck had 16 points and Robin Smeulders contributed 10 along with a game-high 12 rebounds for the winners. EWE Baskets excelled on defense while on offense, they moved the ball well and found the open man. They ended up burying 10 of 23 shots from long range and made 21 of 38 inside the arc. EWE Baskets stormed into a 27-14 lead by the end of the first quarter and stretched that to 50-27 by half-time. The advantage ballooned to 33 after the restart before Leiden clawed their way back to 74-48 with 10 minutes remaining. The hosts were able to coast to victory in the fourth quarter to improve to 2-1 and drop Leiden to 1-2. |
