GAME REPORT

Orthez No Obstacle For Artland

Artland Dragons remained unbeaten in the EuroChallenge with an 87-81 triumph over Pau Lacq Orthez.

Adam Hess led the German club with 21 points in the Group H game.

Artland hit 12 of 22 shots from long range with Hess an impressive four of six.

The victory looked as if it would be far more comprehensive than it ended up being because with 7:47 to go, Artland had an 83-62 lead.

Orthez, being urged on by their new coach Laurent Vila, held them to just four points the rest of the way and lost by just six with Jean-Frederic Morency hitting a three-pointer two seconds from the end.

Roared on by their home crowd, the Dragons opened up a 49-30 half-time advantage.

Orthez pulled to within 70-57 late in the third on a three-pointer by Florian Lesca, but David Holston replied in kind to stretch the Dragons lead back to 16.

Chinemelu Elonu led Orthez, who fell to 0-3, with 19 points.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes Artland Dragons vs. Pau Lacq Orthez

Stefan Koch, coach Artland Dragons
"We played decent basketball, the good thing is that we won this game. Now we only need one more win to advance to the next round. I didn't like the second half at all. They scored 30 points in the first half and 30 points in the third quarter. We couldn't even stop their young guys. We need to improve to become a better team. We play way too nonchalant when we have a big lead. We need to focus on changing that."

Adam Hess, player Artland Dragons
"We played well, but then we got a little lazy. We have to keep growing as a team, learn from the good and the bad parts. And we have to focus on our game for 40 minutes."

Laurent Vila, coach Elan Béarnais Pau-Lacq-Orthez
"We lost to a good team that played very intelligent and strong in offense and defense. We made some mistakes in our rotation and allowed easy points due to turnovers and their fast breaks. In the end we managed to cut down the lead, but [that was because] the Dragons coach rested his players for the league competition. It was still good for our young guys."

Slaven Rimac, player Elan Béarnais Pau-Lacq-Orthez
"For us the EuroChallenge is difficult, because we have some problems in the domestic league. We have a new coach and we focus on the domestic competition to stay in the league. The EuroChallenge is not our main focus right now. The Artland Dragons are a good team who know what it needs to be done. They play aggressive when they are supposed to. This six-point-game doesn't show the real picture. The Dragons dominated us the whole game."
