Lukoil Academic beat BK Prostejov 87-77 in the Czech Republic on Wednesday to punch their ticket for the Eurocup Regular Season.
After winning the first leg of the Qualifying Round tie by five points last week in Bulgaria, Jovica Arsic's team hit the road and broke open a close second game, midway through the third quarter.
Trailing 49-47, Academic outscored the hosts 25-6 to take what appeared to be a firm grip on the second leg.
Todor Stoykov hit two free-throws, Tencho Banev dunked and both Andre Owens and Lamont Mack made three-pointers at the start of the run that left the visitors on top, 70-51, with 47 seconds to play in the third quarter.
Brandon Heath had seven points in that scoring rampage for Lukoil.
Slovenian guard Matej Venta had eight points as Prostejov battled back and closed the gap to 75-69 with 4:00 remaining.
But Academic hit their stride again and pulled away for a 15-point triumph on aggregate.
Owens finished with 17 points and Mack scored 15 for Lukoil.
Arvydas Eitutavicius led Prostejov with 14 points.
While Academic will compete in the Eurocup, Prostejov will go into the EuroChallenge - the competition that both sides played in last season.
Lukoil Academic Head Coach Jovica Arsic:
"We continued a very well played game from the first leg. Still I have to admit I expected the game to go a little smoother for us. In spite of that, the final score reflects the quality of both teams. We were simply a couple of points better tonight."
BK Prostejov Head Coach Zbynek Choleva:
"We played a very decent game through the first half. After we switched side, however, we lost control over our one on one defence. Not to mention we were literally suffering at the end of the game. Our opponent was simply better in key areas of the game and made it obvious."
Lukoil Academic player Andre Owens:
"Both teams played well but as it always is, there has to be a winner and a loser. We are of course very happy we were the winners tonight. It was the defence and the fact that we seized every opportunity we had that played the key role in winning the game."
BK Prostejov player Matej Venta:
"Lukoil deserved to win. They clearly showed that on this level, you simply need to give it all you have throughout the whole game. We went through a five-minute period in which we lost all the concentration and Lukoil used the chance without hesitation, gaining 18 points on us."
