Besiktas Win Opening Game Over Dexia

21. Marcelus Jalon Kemp (Besiktas JK)
Marcelus Kemp led all scorers with 24 points and, along  with Deron Williams, propelled Besiktas to victory

Deron Williams wasted no time in making an impact for Besiktas as they claimed a 78-70 win over Dexia Mons Hainaut in the first leg of their Eurocup Qualifying Round tie.

The NBA superstar had 15 points and nine assists for the Istanbul outfit, which will try to complete the two-legged victory over Dexia next week in Belgium.

Williams, who has moved to Turkey to play during the NBA lockout, was by no means a one-man show against the Belgians.

Marcelus Kemp poured in a game-high 24 points and both Zoran Erceg and Ersin Dagli had double-doubles in points and rebounds for Besiktas.

Erceg finished with 15 points and 10 boards and Dagli scored 13 points while corralling 10 rebounds.

Dexia have played in these sorts of ties before and know the importance of playing to the final whistle.

That was evident late in this game.

Trailing 74-59 after a Kemp lay-up with 3:45 to go, a Warren Carter dunk sparked a 9-2 Dexia run.

A pair of Williams' free-throws took the Besiktas lead back to 10, only for Carter to hit a jump shot to reduce Besiktas' margin of victory to eight.

Justin Cage led five Dexia players in double-figures with 13 points.

Carter ended up with eight points and 11 boards.
