|Seamus Boxley and ZZ Leiden romped over Armia to book their Last 16 spot|
ZZ Leiden rode a strong first quarter to a convincing victory over Armia to earn a place in the Last 16 of the EuroChallenge.
In a do-or-die battle on Tuesday, Leiden prevailed 76-59 with Seamus Boxley scoring 17 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
The result has left both sides with 3-3 records but the Dutch team has advanced to the next stage of the competition because of a better goal differential in their two meetings with Armia.
The Georgian club, which has played in front of good crowds at home, had won the first encounter on November 22, 74-71.
Leiden had a dream start, scoring 19 of the game's first 21 points.
On top 27-9 by the end of the first quarter, the hosts did allow Armia to pull to within 29-19 on a lay-up by Jeremy Richardson.
But Leiden, getting a jumper from Patrick Hilliman right before the buzzer, went to half-time on top 38-24.
The advantage ballooned to 21 in the third quarter, only for Armia to find a way back into the game by the end of frame.
A Richardson three-point play and a three-ball from Benjamin Woodside reduced the arrears to 54-40.
Richardson buried a three at the start of the fourth to make it an 11-point game and fuel hopes of a comeback for the Armia fans.
Neither side would score for the next two minutes, though.
Boxley finally made a pair of free-throws and hit a jumper to take the lead back to 58-43 with 7:02 to go.
Armia once more pulled to within 11 but got no closer as Leiden held on to celebrate one of the most impressive victories in their history.
Hilliman had 16 points, Worthy De Jong 14 and Thomas Jackson 11.
Jackson also led the team with four steals.
Shooting guard Arvin Slagter had six points, eight assists and seven rebounds.
