Paris Levallois Down Haifa

Paris Levallois downed Maccabi Haifa 75-63 in the first leg of the Eurochallenge Qualifying Round in France on Tuesday.

Levallois both protected and moved the ball extremely well as a team, tallying 22 assists and only 13 turnovers, while Haifa only managed 8 assists and gave away possession 18 times.

The French will try to hold out to their 12 point differential in the second and final leg in Israel on October 13.

Lamont Hamilton recorded a game-high 22 points for Levallois. The center was supported by Marcellus Sommerville's 16 points and 12 boards and David Noel's 11 points and five assists.

Haifa was led by Marco Killingsworth's 13 points and game-high 13 rebounds. Avraham Ben Chimol and Franklin Robinson chipped in 13 and 10 points, respectively.

Levallois jumped out to a 9-0 lead before Killingsworth made a lay up with almost five minutes gone off the clock. A pair of Noel's free throws sent the home team into the second quarter up 17-8.

Hamilton scored his tenth point of the contest with a lay-up that gave Levallois a 32-20 bulge mid-way through the second, and Sommersville hit a three-pointer out of the halftime break and add a pair of free-throws minutes later to push the lead to 45-24.

Levallois managed to open a 47-27 break with five to play in third.

Haifa was able to cut into Levallois's 18-point advantage in the last five minutes of the game to be within striking distance in the second leg.
