GAME REPORT Spartak St Petersburg used a huge second half to power their way into the Final Four of the EuroChallenge with victory over Pinar Karsiyaka. The two teams were all tied up, 43-43, at half-time, but Spartak ran riot after the break to win by a final score of 89-71. The Russian Cup Champions had edged into a six-point lead, 65-59, early in the fourth quarter, but then exploded as Pero Antic sank a three-pointer followed by a three-pointer and a jump-shot from Patrick Beverley. Andre Smith replied with a sinle free-throw for the hosts, but that was all they could manage in a 12-1 run, and the Spartak onslaught kept on coming. Shortly after, Miha Zupan's jumper and Henry Domercant's three made it 77-60 at the midway point of the quarter, and Pinar's hopes were effectively over. Smith did his best, earning a series of fouls as the scored five straight points, three of them from the line, but the hosts could not get the gap back into single figures. Domercant finished with 23 points to lead four Spartak players in double figures, ass Antic collected 16 points and nine rebounds, Beverley scored 15 and Zupan added 12. Pinar wasted 26 points from Smith, while Jovo Stanojevic and David Holston also reached double figures with 11 points each. Spartak took the first game 78-73 on Tuesday. |
