GAME REPORT

Kemzura’s Men Escape Zadar With Victory

Jeremiah Massey (Lokomotiv Kuban)
Jeremiah Massey once again took Lokomotiv Kuban on his back to lift the Russian team over Zadar

Lokomotiv Kuban avoided an upset at BC Zadar on Tuesday night after a clutch fourth-quarter performance.

Having won the first EuroChallenge Last 16 Group L encounter in Russia by 18, Kestutis Kemzura's Lokomotiv found a much tougher Zadar side in Croatia but still prevailed 81-71.

The Krasnodar team improved to 2-2 in the Last 16 and dropped Zadar to 1-3.

The contest was tight until the end.

Zadar got two free-throws from Pavle Marcinkovic and a lay-up from Brandon Brown to knot the game at 71-71 with 4:19 to play.

Stanislav Makshantsev split a pair at the charity stripe for Lokomotiv before Alexey Surovtsev came up with a big defensive play.

Surovtsev intercepted a pass from Ive Ivanov and 15 seconds later, Jeremiah Massey drilled a three-pointer for a 75-71 lead.

The shot took Massey's points haul to 20 for the contest.

Alando Tucker then followed with a lay-up before baskets by Mike Wilkinson and Massey secured the 81-71 triumph.

Massey ended up with 22 points and Wilkinson had 20.

Bowman had a game-high 14 rebounds to go with his eight points for Zadar.

Marko Car scored 20 points for the home side.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes BC Zadar vs. Lokomotiv Kuban

Tihomir Bujan, head coach BC Zadar:
"I am very sorry for the loss, because we showed that we can fight a team as strong as Lokomotiv. We werent good in the first half, and Lokomotiv used that, but the key moment happened on the end of the game, when Massey shot for 3. We looked much better than in the first game in Russia."

Kestutis Kemzura, head coach BC Lokomotiv Kuban:
"We were expecting a very hard game, and we got it. We knew Zadar is a good team, no matter that we bet them in the first game easily. They played good and aggresive in defense, and that caused us some problems, especially in the first quarter when Car played great. We played with higher intensity in the second quarter, but Zadar managed to come back in the game at the end. Tucker brought us the victory, he did a great job guarding Car, and Massey in the offensive part.
