|Benjamin Woodside exploded for 23 points, 7 rebounds and a team best 4 assists in the home win for BCM Gravelines|
BCM Gravelines Dunkerque revved up the defense in the second half and claimed a 75-65 triumph over Norrköping Dolphins in France.
In Tuesday's EuroChallenge Last 16 Group K meeting, Gravelines were behind 47-40 at the intermission but then limited the visitors from Sweden to just five third-quarter points.
That allowed them to go on top 55-52 with 10 minutes to go.
At the beginning of the fourth quarter, Benjamin Woodside pulled the right strings for the hosts.
He drove in for a basket before delivering an alley-oop pass to Cyril Akpomedah, who converted the opportunity for a 59-52 lead.
Norrköping did a good job of staying within striking distance.
A Tomas Gaidamavicius lay-up with 3:42 remaining for the Dolphins trimmed the deficit to 63-60, only for France international Yannick Bokolo to answer with a three-point play for Gravelines.
Dan Issa and Woodside, who had a game-high 23 points, had lay-ups to make it a 70-60 lead.
The Swedes closed the gap to 70-65 but Woodside replied with two free-throws and a lay-up to restore the nine-point advantage and Gravelines ended up winning by 10.
Mo SENE (BCM Gravelines Dunkerque, Center):
"We played hard in defense in the second half. It was not possible to let Norrköping run the offense like they did during the first 20 minutes. Defense was the key of our victory as we let them score only 18 points in the second half".
Christian MONSCHAU (BCM Gravelines Dunkerque, Head Coach):
"Norrköping is a very strong team. They played a very impressive first half, proving why the reached the Top16. We needed to be more focused on our game and to communicate. What we did in the second half, improving our level and our defensive pressure. Tonight is a win, but we can be sure that the game in Sweden will be tough".
Andrew MITCHELL (Norrkoping Dolphins, PG):
"Gravelines did a great job to come back in the game after the first half. It's always interesting to play that kind of games because you learn a lot."
Kelly GRANT ( Norrkoping Dolphins, Head coach):
"We were a little bit intimidated by Gravelines' defense in the second half. I think that we did, however, a good job in defense but they put a lot of pressure on us. We couldn't find open shots. Our usual leaders in offense didn't score tonight".
