ETHA Encomi won the second battle of Nicosia teams on Tuesday, 74-67 over Apoel, to stay firmly in the hunt for a place in the next round of the EuroChallenge.
Thrashed 86-59 in the first Group G meeting back on November 16, ETHA Encomi returned home and got 20 points from Valdas Dabkus.
With the game knotted at 10-10 just 2:31 left in the first quarter, the hosts rattled off eight unanswered points.
Anthony King and Kenvarrios Tutt made lay-ups before King split a pair of free-throws and Dejan Cup followed with a shot from the arc.
Antonis Constantinides' men stayed in front the rest of the way.
King and Tutt each scored 13 points in the victory.
Apoel (1-3) lost despite out-rebounding ETHA 43-29.
Arthur Lee had 12 points in defeat.
APOEL Head Coach Giannis Christopoulos:
"Congratulations to ETHA for the win and I wish good continue to this team. We didn't start right that game, and without energy. ETHA put us out of our rhythm and also we had a defense problem. We tried at the 2nd half but it wasn't easy to turn that game. Now we need to win the next two home games, to keep the hope that we pass to the next round."
APOEL player Giannis Kalaitzides:
"ETHA wanted more than my team to win this game. At the 1st half we didn't do anything right, at our defense and forward game. We don't look for excuses about this. Now we have a difficult game for our league and I hope that, one of the two teams from Cyprus to pass at the next round"
ETHA Head Coach Antonis Konstantinides:
"Congratulations to my players for the very good game. We wanted to win this game and I believe this win was a fair result. Last Saturday, we lost a game against APOEL, one our game, and so my players decided before this game to give all the best to win tonight's game. I hope finally, one of the two teams to pass at the next round".
ETHA Player Reggie Rending:
"At the past we lost same close games. But tonight we tried and we worked hard to win that game, because we want to pass to the next round"
