Tarick Johnson poured in 20 points as ETHA Encomi got off the mark in EuroChallenge Group G with a 78-66 win over BC Zadar.
The hosts took a double-digit lead early in the second quarter and cruised to a win that moves them to 1-2 in the group.
A 6-0 run made it 38-28 with 2.33 to go in the first half.
The lead grew to as many as 17 points, 47-30, on Dejan Cup's three-pointer early in the third period.
BC Zadar did attempt a fightback, and got back to within single figures as Brandon Brown's lay-up and Ivan Batur's free throws closed the gap to seven, 49-42, with 2:51 to go in the third period.
But from there Encomi moved back through the gears and any hopes the visitors had of a fightback were extinguished.
Valdasa Dabkus also scored in double figures for the hosts with 13 points.
Ive Ivanov led Zadar with 12 points while Mario Dundovic and Marko Car had 11 each.
BC Zadar Head Coach Danijel Jusup:
"At first I want to congratulate the team of ETHA, because they tried more than our team to win this game. But I'm disappointed from my young players, because they didn't give enough energy for this game. ETHA had better 3 points shots and our team had problems to catch the rebounds"
Zadar player Brandon Brown:
"We did not have the desire to fight for the game, they had energy and they wanted it more.We played a lot of games this season and this was the worst. We lost a lot of games, but this one we did not give much effort and we will work harder for the next games.Congratulations to ETHA, they came here, they wanted it more, good luck to them for the rest of the season."
ETHA Encomi Head Coach Antonis Konstantinides:
"I want to congratulate my players for this game. It's a win who make us fell happy, because we were coming from a bad week, at our last games. They were having problem in scoring. Tonight the one on one defense gaming helped us too much to win this game and especially for the next two games against APOEL for our league and for the Eurochallenge".
Etha Encomi player Tarick Joghnson:
"I first would like to say good luck to Zadar for the upcoming games and for the rest of the season.I would like to congratulate our coach, where this week he prepared us very well. As far as the game, we did a great job sharing the ball, 18 assists tonight, which is outstanding. I think that was the difference. We also showed a lot of passion, we bounced back after two bad games, and needed to win. As I said, good luck to Zadar, great team, great organization but I conclude that today our club ETHA really deserved this game."
