GAME REPORT

Antwerp Knocked Off By Hot-Shooting Lokomotiv

Jeremiah Massey (Lokomotiv Kuban)
Jeremiah Massey dominated the boards with 15 rebounds

Lokomotiv Kuban took a giant step towards the next round of the EuroChallenge with a 96-69 home romp over Antwerp.

Having lost the first encounter in Belgium in double overtime, Kestutis Kemzura's Lokomotiv had much better luck back in Russia, hitting an out-of-this-world 13 of 17 shots from long range with Lionel Chalmers drilling five of six.

As potent as the Russian team was shooting, connecting on six of eight from three-point range in the first half, they still trailed 39-38.

Bryan Hopkins (15 points) and Darnell Wilson (10pts) did most of the damage for Eddy Casteels' team in the first two quarters.

The situation changed dramatically after the restart.

Jeremiah Massey began the second half with a lay-up and Mike Wilkinson followed with a hook shot.

Massey then dunked for a 44-39 lead.

The decisive burst for Lokomotiv, who improved to 3-1 and took over sole possession of first place in Group F with the triumph, came three and a half minutes into the quarter.

After Hopkins nailed a shot from the arc to cut the home side's lead to 46-44, Wilkinson replied with a jumper and Alexey Surovtsev then added a three-pointer.

By the end of the third quarter, the lead was 67-47.

Lokomotiv had outscored the visitors 29-8 in the frame to take a stranglehold on the game.

Massey didn't finish in double figures in points like Chalmers (22) or Wilkinson (14), but he did have a game-high 15 rebounds to go with his nine points.

As for the three-point shooting parade, seven Lokomotiv players in all hit shots from the arc.

Antwerp are now 2-2 and will look to get back on track next week against Steaua-Turabo Bucharest.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes Lokomotiv Kuban vs. Antwerp Giants

BC Lokomotiv-Kuban Head Coach Kestutis Kemzura:
"As you can see we had two different halves. The difference in score is great. At first we were in a good mood and wanted to do our best but failed. The opponents moved and defended well. It seemed to me that we played away game but not at home. The situation changed in the second half. Then we changed a little bit but it was efficient."

BC Lokomotiv-Kuban player Maxim Grigriev:
"When we caught our game they lost their defense. We started to play more aggressively and it was easy to play for us."

BC Antwerp Giants Head Coach Eddy Casteels:
"It seemed to me that one team was ready to play for fourty minutes and the other one was ready to play for only twenty minutes. The players and T-shirt numbers were the same in the second half but it looked that we had another team on the court."

BC Antwerp Giants player Moors Roel:
"Lokomotiv empowered its defense in the third quarter and it became difficult to rotate the ball."
