A stunning fourth quarter propelled Norrkping Dolphins through to the Last 16 of the EuroChallenge with a 70-64 win over Belgacome Liege on Tuesday night.
In a head-to-head battle for Group D's remaining place in the next round, the Dolphins rallied from a double-digit deficit in the final period to win with room to spare.
Liege were looking comfortable with a 60-50 advantage after Guy Muya's lay-up with eight minutes to go.
But back-to-back-to-back three-pointers from Andrew Mitchell, Povilas Sakinis and Mitchell again obliterated that advantage and the run stretched to 12 unanswered points as the Dolphins went up 62-60.
Leonard Matela made a jump-shot for Liege, but the Dolphins reeled off another six straight points to go up 68-62 with 68 seconds left.
Hockins Munda Mawejanangila's lay-up cut the gap to four, 68-64, but he missed a follow-up free-throw, and Sakinis iced it for the Dolphins from the free throw line as Taylor Griffin and Munda Mawejanangila both missed late three-point attempts for Liege.
Mitchell led the Dolphins with 20 points, while Mikael Lindqvist added 17.
Cedric Bozeman had 12 points to lead Liege while Matela added 10.
Norrkoping Dolphins Head Coach Kelly Grant:
"I'm very proud of them. We didn't want to end this competition tonight and we held them to 6 points in the last quarter. Maybe we played the best 10 minutes of all our season tonight and I feel great to pass to the next round."
Norrkoping Dolphins player Conor Grace:
"That's a huge game for us. We played bad in the first half, and before the last quarter our coach said we hadn't to have any regrets, and we made a terrific run! We played well in defence, and made very big 3-point shots."
Belgacom Liège Head Coach Dario Gjergja:
"We didn't play 40 minutes. In the last quarter we made 8 turnovers and we totally lost concentration and received too many 3-point shots. I'm unhappy because I think we were able to go to the next round."
Belgacom Liège player Geoffrey Hockins:
"We are all very disappointed with this loss. We played well for 30 minutes, and then, everything went wrong and nobody was able to lead the team and heap up. That's a very disappointing day for us tonight."
