The Blur

BC Khimik's Curtis Millage is a veteran playmaker in Europe that has turned out for clubs in Germany, Latvia, Slovenia, France, Russia and Ukraine.

The 29-year-old has enough experience to know that teams are going to have good times, and bad.

That's why the explosive point guard with the lightning-quick first step isn't panicking, despite Khimik's poor start in the Ukrainian Superleague.

After six defeats, during which the club parted with coach Zoran Kalpic and replaced him with Vitaly Usenko as caretaker, Khimik finally defeated Halychyna, 88-79.

"The guys went out and played hard," Millage said.

"The coach said to go out and have fun.

"We just went out and got the first win, and now we just need to have fun."

The Halychyna backcourt didn't have much fun playing against Millage.

He did everything imaginable to help his club stop the rot, scoring 17 points, handing out 14 assists, grabbing seven rebounds.

The stat that said the most about his effort dealt with defense.

Millage had eight steals.

"This is my job," he said.

"I try to look at every game and just have fun.

"The fans, my teammates, my coaches - I see them, try to do my best and go out there and have fun."

Millage has made his mark on FIBA Europe competitions in the past.

In 2007, he played in the EuroCup for ASK Riga and was voted to the All-Star Game.

In his team's two-legged EuroChallenge Qualifying Round triumph over Asesoft Ploiesti this season, Millage averaged 18.5 points, 8.5 assists and three steals.

Millage, a former star guard at PAC-10 powerhouse Arizona State, is a blur when he's on the fast break.

He goes from baseline to baseline as fast as anyone.

The 1.86m guard is also great leaper, which is why it's a common sight to see Millage flying towards the rim with opposing centers trying to get in his way.

Here is another fact that should come as no surprise since he hails from Los Angeles.

Millage excelled in volleyball when he was in high school.

The good feeling from the win over Halychyna only lasted for a few days because the next opponent was Azovmash and they beat Millage and Khimik, 85-73.
