Gran Canaria Romp Over KK Zagreb

06 October 2010

Gran Canaria bounced back from their narrow loss on the road in Croatia and trampled all over a shell-shocked KK Zagreb as they completed a 96-60 victory to punch their ticket for the Eurocup regular season in comprehensive fashion.

Having been edged out 71-69 in the first game, the smart money was always on the ACB team overhauling the deficit although perhaps not quite in the ruthless way they managed to do it.

Right from the tip Gran Canaria unleashed a barrage of offence which KK Zagreb just couldn't deal with.

The home team powered their way into a dominant position within minutes of taking to the floor and by the end of the first period, the result never looked in doubt with the Spanish side 27-10 ahead.

Things quickly got a lot worse for the Croatian team when Javier Beiran drained a three - a feat he replicated minutes later to put his team 39-13 in front.

It was 55-29 to Gran Canaria at the interval and the only real interest left at that point was the question of how many they would win by and perhaps more interestingly for the home fans - how they lost the first game.

Charles Wallace and Jaycee Carroll inflicted the bulk of the damage with the former claiming a double-double 14 points and 13 rebounds while the latter top scored in the game with 24 points.

Meanwhile Tomas Bellas and Taurean Green shared 13 assists.
