Scavolini Pesaro were pushed hard by visiting Elan Chalon but managed to grind out an 88-83 win to maintain their unbeaten home record and remain at the summit of Group K.
|Eric Williams torched Chalon with 22 points and 11 boards to help his team maintain their unbeaten record|
Their third straight victory in the last sixteen was made possible mainly by a magnificent 20 points and 11 rebounds by Eric Williams.
Chalon surprised their hosts by edging the first period 21-19 despite having been 13-5 behind after just three minutes of the game.
Scavolini then produced a stronger performance during the second period despite having initially trailed by as many as six points at 31-25.
However a stunning 13-0 run got them back on track and into a 45-41 lead by the midway point of the game.
Four minutes into the third quarter and Chalon showed they weren't going away as a score by Taj Gray handed them the lead again at 53-52.
Just when it looked like Scavolini would head into the last quarter in front, a Joffrey Lauvergne three-pointer tied the scores at 62-62.
The scores remained tied until six minutes from the buzzer when the Italian club edged ahead and they managed to stay there despite a late flurry from the visitors.
Elan Chalon had five players all reach double-figures including Jerome Tillman with 16 but nobody could produce the kind of MVP performance of Williams to really make the difference.
NEBOJSA JOKSIMOVIC (Scavolini Pesaro player):
"It's a very important win for us in order to reach the first place in our group. We want to earn the first place for the next round. It was a very tough game against a good french team. We won because we've been able to play the whole 40 minutes and recover the few points deficit we had in fourth quarter."
lLUCA DAL MONTE (Scavolini Pesaro head coach):
"very important to have won this game, our intensity was not always the right one during the game, but we made it and that's what really counts. For us is very difficult to reset our mentality every week after tough games in Italian championship. Tonight we had a lot from the bench and even from players like Sakota, who hasn't been practicing the whole week as he was feeling pain in his back or Shaw, with hip injury."
GREGOR BEUGNOT (ELAN CHALON head coach):
"It was a tough game, we've been point to point all the game. The final result comes mostly from 2 shots, one by Green and one by Sakota. They scored in the key moments and that is what really made the diference."
MAXIME ZIANVENI (Elan Chalon player):
"We started the game the right way stopping their inside game. We were a little surprised by the rhythm that they gave to the game but we've been good in coming back alltough we didn't manage to fight enough to win it."
