GAME REPORTBC FMP tore apart Artland Dragons in the first half of their EuroChallenge Last 16 clash on Tuesday before settling for an 86-80 victory. FMP'S Nemanja Protic led a balanced scoring attack in the Group J game with 19 points while Predrag Samardziski distinguished himself with a double-double for the Serbian team. He finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Both sides went into the game on a high after prevailing in five of their six Regular Season games. The Belgrade team stormed into a 33-13 lead by the end of the opening quarter and went in front by 22 in the second before taking a 52-34 advantage to half-time. Artland tried to claw their way back and managed to reduce the deficit to nine on three occasions in the third quarter before heading to the fourth trailing 75-63. FMP maintained their concentration and seemed to always be in control. Artland never gave up and a three-pointer by Nathan Peavy in the waning seconds closed the gap to 86-80. That's how it finished. Alexander Seggelke ended up with 18 points and six rebounds for Artland. |

"It was an important game for us, we wanted to start the second round of EuroChallenge with a victory [and we did but] unfortunately we didn't manage to win with a bigger margin. We played great during the first half and we put a big gap between them and us, but we let them come back during the second half." BC FMP coach Vlade Djurovic:
"If someone asked me before the game if I could be satisfied with a six points margin of victory, I would have accepted it as a satisfying result. However, right now I am not very happy with this difference. Our downfall started in the second half. In first half we were good in assists and three point shots." "Congratulations to FMP, I was impressed with their offence and they have big guys in defense. They shot well for three points in the first quarter. We got the chance during the fourth quarter to get closer. Again congratulations to their young team." Artland Dragons coach Thorsten Leibenath:
"It is disappointing to me that we make the same mistakes that we made last year when we also played FMP, even though we have a different team; only three players are the same from last year's roster. FMP played well especially during the first half, they excelled in offense. It looked to me that we got a little bit scared in the first half, didn't really try to attack them as hard as we could. We won three quarters and it's a shame that we still lost, but coming back from 20 points down against a good team was too much for us to handle today." |
