David Noel's 21 points and Ralph Mims' free throws with three seconds left lifted Roanne Basket to a 73-70 win over BC Kyiv in a hotly-contested EuroChallenge game on Tuesday night.
The Ukrainian team out-rebounded the French outfit by 13 and hit seven more three-pointers, but ultimately they did not overcome their sloppy ball-handling which led to 27 turnovers.
Noel appeared to give the visiting Ukrainians one last chance when he missed two free throws with just eight seconds to go but Ousmane Dia's offensive rebound saved the day for the home team.
Kyiv had balanced scoring with four players in double-figures, led by Maksym Pustozvonov's 14 points.
Denys Lukashov added 12 points, seven rebounds and six assists, but the point guard was also guilty of eight turnovers.
The visitors also hurt themselves at the free throw line, missing six of 11 shots.
Roanne, who prevailed last week, will look to continue their winning ways next week when they host KK Zagreb while Kyiv (1-1) will return to Ukraine to face Keravnos.
David NOEL, Roanne:
We saw on the video that they were a good three-point shooting team so we wanted to guard it but they continued shooting. It just feel good be able to play a good game and I'm happy we got the win."
Jean-Denys CHOULET, Roanne Coach:
"I'm happy we got the win but not by the way we got it. We did not execute well our plays. We did not take enough offensive rebounds. They made a lot of three-pointers, it was amazing. It's a good young team."
Oleksandr Lypovyy, Kiev Player:
"It was a really hard game for us in this gym because the spectators are great here. I think we made a lot of mistakes in the game and at the end of the game we had a chance to win the game, we had two chances, we did not use it. Roanne played very good defense."
Chernii Vitalii, Kiev Coach"
"Of course every coach wants to win, but Roanne is a very good team. We have very young players in our roster, that's why we made too many turnovers. We shoot only 45% on free throws. I promise you, in Kiev, we will try to take the match."
