Elan Chalon will march into the Last 16 of the EuroChallenge as the Group D winners after an 81-74 triumph over Proteas EKA AEL.
Philippe Braud had 23 points for the French team, which hit 11 of 23 shots from long range and forced the Cypriot side to commit 18 turnovers.
Proteas were fortunate that Cedevita Zagreb lost at Dexia Mons-Hainaut earlier in the evening.
Had the Croatian team won that game, they would have finished second and advanced to the Last 16 instead.
After falling behind early and trailing 27-16 at the end of the first quarter, Proteas found their rhythm and got back in the game.
They reduced the arrears to 42-36 by half-time and four times managed to pull even in the third quarter but never took the lead.
Twice more Proteas knotted the game in the fourth, the last at 63-63 with less than seven minutes remaining.
Joffrey Lauvergne buried a jump shot and Jerome Tillman followed with a three-point play as Elan Chalon went back in front for good.
Marios THRASIVOULIDES, Proteas Assistant coach:
"Dexia won tonight , they give us the chance for the qualification. 2 good teams tonight , Chalon has good statistics from the 3 point line, we try to stop but... the game at Limassol was close. But I think Chalon and us were 2 best team in the group and continue in the second round."
Proteas Forward Courtney Fells:
"Chalon did a great job tonight. We came back during the second half, but they did a great job in offense and in defense."
Chalon coach Gregor BEUGNOT:
"The championship stays our priority but it is important because we won 3 games and we stay on the dynamique of victory. I am very happy about the spirit of my team, and our bench did a great job."
Chalon Guard Philippe BRAUD:
"It is not easy to win because Proteas has a good team but it is good, we stay on three victory in 1 week and we need to continue like this."
