GAME REPORT

Krasnye Krylia Turn Back Scavolini For Third Triumph

Scavolini Pesaro ended their long losing streak at the start of the Italian season with a victory at the weekend over Cremona but they crashed to a first EuroChallenge setback less than 48 hours later in Samara, Russia.

Krasnye Krylia out-rebounded Scavolini 46-24 and improved to 3-0 by beating the Italians in their Group C game, 70-58.

Luis Flores and Andrey Trushkin poured in 18 points apiece for the winners, with the former also corralling 11 rebounds.

The hosts appeared to take a firm grip on proceedings in the first half, opening up a 43-20 lead with 1:56 to go in the second quarter.

Flores gave his side the 23-point stranglehold on the contest with two free-throws, taking his points haul in the first half to 14.

Scavolini began their comeback by reeling off the last seven points of the half to trail 43-27.

Luca Dalmonte's side cut the deficit in half by the end of the third quarter at 55-47.

Early in the fourth quarter, Scavolini silenced the home crowd with a basket from Simone Flamini and two straight Dusan Sakota jump shots.

That burst of points reduced the arrears to 56-53.

Trushkin took the wind out of their sails, however, by replying with a three-point play, a jump shot and a split of two free-throws for a 62-53 advantage.

The home side pulled away for a 12-point triumph.

Daniele Cinciarini had 12 points for Scavolini, who dropped to 2-1.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes Krasnye Krylia vs. Scavolini Pesaro

Luca Dalmonte, Scavolini Coach:

"Congratulations to the Samara team, and I'd like to say sorry for my words to referees, but it's not referees who decide the game.  Our trip to Samara was quite long, and we had a very important game on Sunday so the first 20 minutes were full of turnovers, and our players seemed to be too relaxed. Samara won due to their athleticism and high quality of the game. The last 20 minutes we played better offense and defense, but the last three minutes we failed to shoot, and Samara won."

Daniel Cinciarini, Scavolini:

"My congratulations to Krylia. At the beginning we played bad defense, but we tried to stay in the game till the end not to lose our chances. We have a lot of games in front of us, and we'll play better and better."

Sergey Zozulin, Krasnye Coach:

"Firstly, my congratulations to Scavolini on their first victory in the Italian championship. They are a very strong team. We managed to control the game and played zone defense, and this worked.  After the second period the players relaxed thinking that the game is done, but Scavolini showed that they can fight till the very end of the game."

Sergey Karaulov, Krasnye:

"We were prepared for the game, we studied the Scavolini special techniques, and we deserved the victory tonight."
