Bosnia and Herzegovina international Kenan Bajramovic turned in a big performance to spark BC Kyiv in a 90-75 victory over BC Kalev Cramo.
Bajramovic scored 23 points and hauled in 10 rebounds for Kyiv, who went on a 7-0 run to go on top at 12-5 and stayed in front of the EuroChallenge Group H game the rest of the way.
By the end of the first quarter, Kyiv were in front 31-22 and they extended that lead to 47-32 with three minutes remaining in the first half.
Kalev Cramo didn't lose heart and went on a 12-2 surge to close the gap to 61-59 with 40 seconds to go in the third quarter.
That was as close as they would get.
Scoonie Penn ended the frame with a lay-up for Kyiv and Bajramovic sank two free throws at the start of the fourth as the Ukrainian giants kept their noses in front.
They ultimately pulled away for a 15-point win.
Nate Fox finished with 23 points and eight rebounds for the Estonians.
Kalev Cramo, who are coached by New Zealand national team boss Knead Vucinic, lost despite hitting nine of 17 (52.9%) shots from behind the arc.
Kyiv were 10 of 24 (41.7%).
Kalev Cramo hurt their cause at the free throw line, making 10 of 17 (58.8%) and they were also out-rebounded 36-29.
Both sides are now 1-1.
Sasa Obradovic, BC Kyiv Head Coach:
"We didn't run well enough in the third quarter and also got shocked by the other team's defence. They kept changing from zone to man-to-man and this helped them stop us in organizing our game. Anyway, winning by 15 is a good result."
Artur Drozdov, BC Kyiv Player:
"It was a hard game and we are very happy we won. Like coach said, we made a number of mistakes on offense, which we have to try to avoid in the future. We have a lot of things we still need to work on."
Nenad Vucinic, BC Kalev Head Coach:
"We played a very tough team. Kyiv is a team with great players, who are very well coached. Our guys did a very good job in the second, third and fourth quarter. We didn't play hard enough in the first quarter and allowed them to get confidence and a substantial lead. But we managed a couple of fightbacks and I was proud we never gave up. In the end a couple of shots didn't go in and Bajramovic made his shots to seal the game."
