GAME REPORT

Van Paassen Powers MyGuide To Vital Triumph

EclipseJet MyGuide edged Olympia 68-64 in Amsterdam on Tuesday to improve to 3-3 and clinch second place in Group E of the EuroChallenge.

The Dutch outfit finished above Hapoel Jerusalem, who had the same record, due to a goal differential tie-breaker of +1.

The Amsterdammers won the game in Israel between the two sides on November 26, 83-81, and only lost at home on December 16, 74-73.

Amsterdam coach Arik Shivek said: "After the loss against Jerusalem, there was a heavy weight on our shoulders.

"The guys worked really hard and I am really proud of what we achieved."

Teddy Gipson had 21 points and Peter van Paassen, the Netherlands international, scored 16 while pulling down 13 rebounds for Eclipse Jet MyGuide.

The home side went in front by as many as 13 points in the fourth quarter, only for the visitors to reel off eight straight points and close the gap to 57-52 with 5:14 to go in the game.

Van Paassen answered by catching a pass from Gipson and dunking, and he was fouled on the play.

The center made the free throw for a 60-52 advantage.

Olympia again cut the deficit to just five at 60-55, however, Van Paassen  stood tall and scored four straight points.

He went to the line and sank two free throws with 2:36 to go after being fouled by Michael King, and shortly after hit a jump shot for a 64-55 advantage.

Olympia reduced the arrears to five once more with 1:10 to go on a three-ball by Nikolaos Spanos.

They had a chance to make further inroads, too, after Gipson was called for an offensive foul 43 seconds from the end.

Gipson made amends by picking off a pass by King and he was fouled and made two free throws for a 68-61 advantage.

A King three-pointer with five seconds to play was too little, too late for Olympia.

Panteleimon Papaioakeim finished with 15 points and six rebounds for the Greek team.
