CSK-VVS Samara took a big step towards claiming a place in the EuroChallenge regular season with an 80-60 demolition of KK Zagreb on Tuesday. Samara's Great Britain international Andrew Sullivan finished a point and rebound shy of a double-double for Samara. His nine points and nine boards helped the Russian outfit to a convincing victory in front of 2,000 spectators in Samara. Zagreb, who were paced by Ante Tomic's 19 points and seven rebounds, seized a 22-16 advantage by the end of the first quarter only for Samara to battle back and lead 44-42 at half-time. The Russian outfit then took command in the third period, outscoring Zeljko Pavlicevic's team 17-8 before delivering the knockout punch in the fourth by winning that frame 19-10. Samara out-rebounded KK Zagreb 37-28. They also caught fire from behind the arc, making 11 of 17 while Zagreb were just five of 23. Sergey Demeshkin was five of five from long range and had a team-high 19 points while Mladjen Sljivancanin (13pts) was three of five on his three-ball attempts. |
