Banvit Put Chill On KR Ambitions

Banvit BC encountered stiff resistance for over a quarter but their class told in the end of Tuesday's EuroCup Elimination Round 2 first leg encounter as they won 96-79 at KR Basketball in Iceland.

Donnell Harvey was in vintage form for the visitors from Turkey and finished with a game-high 24 points while Ümit Sonkol poured in 21 and Yunus Cankaya 19.

Banvit, who are 3-4 in their domestic league, held a slender 20-19 lead at the end of the opening quarter but took command over the next 10 minutes, outscoring their hosts 28-20 for a 48-39 lead at half-time and they gradually pulled away in the second half for a big win.

The visitors out-rebounded KR 41-28 and they were far superior shooting the ball, making 25 of 38 (65.8%) inside the arc - Harvey was 11 of 19 (57.9%) - and eight of 17 (47.1%) beyond it.

The Icelandic outfit were just five of 23 (21.7%) from long range.

KR Basketball got big scoring nights from Joshua Helm and Andrew Fogel.

Helm had a team-high 20 points and also pulled down 12 rebounds, while Fogel scored 18 and dished out six assists.
