Akasvayu Edge Dijon In Thriller

American guards Marvis Linwood Thornton and Ariel McDonald each made a pair of free throws in the final 10 seconds to earn Akasvayu Girona a narrow win at JDA Dijon in EuroCup Group L on Tuesday.

Laurent Sciarra scored six points on the spin to put the French hosts 87 86 ahead with 29 seconds remaining.

But he turned from hero to villain at the death by committing the two fouls which led to the match-winning braces from the charity stripe by Thornton and McDonald. He also had a turnover inside the final 10 seconds which forced him into fouling McDonald to stop the clock.

Oliver Romain did make a two-pointer on the buzzer, but it was not enough as Dijon came up just short.

Thornton finished with a game-high 22-point haul, and was Akasvayu's inspiration as they made it two wins out of two in Round II.

He had help from Serbia point guard Marko Marinovic and Venezuelan center German Gabriel, who both weighed in with 13 points.

The result was tough on Dijon, who have now lost both of their matches in Group L.

They went into half-time with a 43-35 lead, thanks to a 19-4 run at the end of the second quarter.

And even though the Spaniards scored 14 points on the bounce across the end of the third quarter and start of the fourth quarter, the home team did not give up and almost ended up winning.

Dijon's top scorer was American big man Anthony Lux (20 points), while Sciarra was typically effusive with 14 points and 13 assists.

However, it was his fouls and turnover at the death that eventually cost his side.
